CORGI'S JAMES BOND DB5

This wonderful model is thought the most famous toy in the world. It’s based on the car of the James Bond’s Goldfinger (1964) and Thunderball (1965) films-the good old British Aston Martin.

Corgi issued the gold model as No.261 in November 1965, just ready for the Christmas shoppers market. Production delays increased the huge and unexpected demand; the early 1966 saw escalation to eventual sales of over 3 million. Later the model upped sales even further as a silver finished version.

The casting was adopted in haste from the previous 309 Aston DB4; so, being some-what second-hand (by five years), the rear end of model 261 is a little rough at the outer edges.

Although common, it is difficult to find an example with all the package and accessories intact. Will any model ever be eligible to complete with the highly successful DB5? (20 Best British Models: Model Collector)
